Waze’s New Feature Helps You Avoid Event-Related Traffic

Waze is all about making traffic more tolerable, and today they have introduced a new feature and partner program that will you to avoid traffic that is related to ongoing events in the area. Say, for example, that your local city or town has a huge parade going on at 6:30 pm in the evening. With Waze’s new Global Event Partner Program, the app would alert you to any traffic due to closed roads from this event and you would be able to avoid any traffic related to it. While this might be less useful in smaller areas where the population is not as large and there are less events going on, this is likely to be a hugely beneficial additive to the service in larger cities and metro areas like Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, and others.
This new capability follows other recent feature additions to Waze, like the Child Reminder Alerts(although these are still only available in the beta app so far), and the new feature which will now help to reduce the amount of difficult intersections you encounter when using Waze for directions. The partner program, which Waze states that they are opening up beginning today, will not cover every single event ever happening in areas where Waze operates, rather it will be limited to a number of selected partners.
At the moment, Waze has listed a total of 20 partners that have agreed to participate and work with Waze on this feature, which includes sports teams like the Washington Redskins, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta Hawks, as well as the Rock n’ Roll Marathon Series. There are other partners as well but they aren’t listed. Waze also plans to sign on more partners so it will be able to expand. Alerts from the included partners span across events which happen in North America, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia. While this is a clear benefit to Waze users in saving them time, partners benefit from having no cost to participate, and it also benefits them from having less traffic routing through the area where their event takes place, leaving more room for people that are attending.
